Troy Gentry Killed in Crash

Fans of country music duo Montgomery Gentry were shocked this afternoon to hear of the death of Troy Gentry. The 50-year-old singer died in a helicopter crash in Medford, New Jersey. The band officially announced the news via Twitter.

It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00 p.m. today in Medford, New Jersey. The duo was scheduled to perform tonight at the Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford. Troy Gentry was 50 years old. Details of the crash are unknown. Troy Gentry’s family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time.

The duo released their first album, Tattoos & Scars in 1999 and delivered a string of hits throughout the early 2000s including “Hillbilly Shoes,” “My Town,” “Gone” and “Something To Be Proud Of.”

Fellow singer-songwriters took to Twitter to express their shock, including Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Terri Clark, Travis Tritt, Sammy Kershaw and more.
